Helen Kujbida was named Seton Health's Volunteer of the Year for 2003. The award is presented to the hospital volunteer who best exhibits the core values of Seton Health and has been serving in a volunteer capacity for more than one year. Kujbida has been a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital of Troy since 1991, working in a variety of capacities. Currently, she assists on the hospital's orthopedic unit, performing clerical duties and other functions. She is active in the Immaculate Conception parish in Watervliet, and has been previously honored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany with the Women of the Diocese award. Kujbida is the mother of two, grandmother of three and recently welcomed her first great-grandchild.
Gail DeMarco and Margaret Story represented the League of Women Voters of Rensselaer County at the national conference, held June 12-15 in Washington, D.C.
Rachel Digman recently joined Smith and Jones of Troy as bookkeeper and will be responsible for the advertising and marketing firm's accounting department. Prior to joining Smith and Jones, Digman was business manager at John G. Waite Associates Architects in Albany. Digman also worked for Liberty Street Restoration, a division of John G. Waite Associates, as construction management business manager. Digman began her accounting career as bookkeeper for New York Apple Sales in Hudson. Digman earned a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Albright College in Reading, Pa. She lives in East Greenbush with her husband and two children.
Samaritan Hospital, a member of the Northeast Health network, contracted with Emergency Medicine Physicians to provide emergency medical services. Dr. Orion Colfer was appointed director of emergency services for Samaritan Hospital. He has been a staff emergency physician at Albany Memorial Hospital since 2002. Colfer is board-certified in emergency medicine and a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is also certified as an instructor in advanced trauma life support and has completed the EMP Scholars Program. Dr. John Braatan, director of emergency services for Samaritan Hospital, was named chairman of the department.
